September 17-19, 2010 - BIG LEAGUE EXPERIENCE SIMPLY AWESOME!
I spent a wonderful three days at the confines of Safeco Field in Seattle this weekend photographing and covering the three game set between the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers (see note below). September 17-19, 2010 - I'M GOING TO THE SHOW! MLB HERE I COME!
As part of my work for Island Sports News, I will be heading to Seattle this coming weekend with full press credentials to photograph the Texas Rangers at Settle Mariners series. I will also be interviewing Seattle's Michael Saunders and Texas's Rich Harden, who are both Victoria boys, about their careers to date in the MLB. And if luck has it, Saunders will get to bat against Harden, which I think would be the first time they face each other in their career.

September 10, 2010 - HOCKEY SEASON BEGINS!
The new hockey season officially began on Friday September 10, when I photographed the home opener of the Saanich Braves Jr. B  Hockey Club.  I will be the official team photographer again this season and am looking forward to capturing a number of images around the rink. I had my first feature article for Island Sports News published this week and it was an in-depth feature on two players on the Victoria Seals baseball team. July 26, 2010 - SEALS MARATHON - 5 GAMES in 48 HOURS!
Due to some scheduling quirks and a rain-out, the Victoria Seals played 5 games in the span of 48 hours and I had them all edited, submitted to ISN for stories and posted to my site by the end of the day of the last game. Click on the images below to check out the galleries from some of the games.

July 6, 2010 - SHOT OF THE GAME!
Victoria Eagle centerfielder Chase Cuckovich makes a valiant attempt to catch a sinking line drive during the Eagles game with their crosstown rivals the Victoria Mariners in BC Premier Baseball League action at Lambrick Park in Victoria Tuesday evening. The Mariners used a 9 run 5th inning to defeat the host Eagles 9-0.

July 1, 2010 - CANADA DAY AT THE BALL PARK
I decided to try something different today and while my colleague Glenn shot the action on the field, I specifically focused on the action OFF the field and in the stands. There's a lot that goes on at a ballgame away from the diamond and this is my attempt to capture some of that! Enjoy!

June 28, 2010 - NOTE TO CANADIAN CUSTOMERS...HST TAX IS IMMINENT!!
On July 1, 2010 the Province of British Columbia is rolling out a Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) that will combine our Provincial Sales Tax (7%) with the federal Goods and Services Tax (5%).  What this means for me is that starting July 1st, 2010, for Canadian Customers only, I will need to charge a 12% tax on any of my photo sales, rather than the 5% GST that is currently applied.  There is no change to any US orders which are not subject to the HST.  So if you are Canadian and want to order some images, please do so by midnight on June 30th to save some cash!

June 22, 2010 - GREATER VICTORIA MINOR BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK
Our spring baseball season is coming to an end and the divisions are all having their championship games this week.  Here are some from the Bantam AA division. Sadly I coach a team in this division and we were eliminated last Saturday!

June 19, 2010 - I WENT TO A FIGHT AND A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT!
Well it was an interesting night at the ball park tonight as I was present for my first ever bench clearing brawl as a photographer (I was involved in one as a player in my Midget age days).  The Seals were getting bombed 8-0 and after a bean ball incident that saw the Victoria coach get tossed, an Edmonton player slid hard into second to break up a double play and our second baseman (rightfully so) took offence.  Here are a few from the sequence below. June 12, 2010 - CANADIAN NAVAL CENTENNIAL
The Canadian Navy is celebrating their 100th anniversary with all kinds of events and activities across the country. In Victoria this week, we enjoyed the International Fleet Review (dozens of naval ships anchored in the harbour) as well as performances by the Canadian Forces Skyhawks Parachute Team and the Snowbirds.  I was on hand for some of the parachute show and the Snowbirds and captured a few images.  See the links below for more.

Having put two of our kids through braces (thank God for my wife's dental plan!), I am on pretty good terms with their orthodontist and when he needed some new architectural and staff shots for their web site, he came calling and hired me to do them. They wanted some "fun and out of the ordinary" staff shots, so we played around a bit with their "tag line" signs - "Embrace Life - Smile" and I gave them a few creative options.  Follow the links below to see what you think.

May 15, 2010 - WHAT? IT'S MAY ALREADY??
It is hard to believe how fast the time seems to go by.  May has been busy so far with my own baseball coaching, my son's spring hockey and other non-photographic activities.  I shot two weekends of hockey but have not had time to post any up yet.  Check back in a few weeks!

April 23, 2010 - MAGAZINE COVER! - GULF ISLANDER VISITOR GUIDE
Last October I had the pleasure of working on a contract for Parks Canada to photograph a number of spots in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve.  One of the photos from that shoot has now been used by a publication called Gulf Islander, a local visitors guide to the area!  Way Cool!  The original image and the cover are presented below. April 20, 2010 - NEW GEAR!
Given the large amount of Sports Photography I am doing, I decided to take the plunge and invest in some high end gear and as such I am now the proud owner of a Canon !D Mark IV and a EF 300 f2.8L.  Just in time for the Victoria Seals baseball season that is approaching.  Now I think I need  a new gear bag to haul everything around in!

April 11, 2010 - BASEBALL TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL PHOTO SEASON UNDERWAY
Its the time of year for spring baseball to begin and along with that the busy Team and Individual photo season. I have been contracted to shoot T&I for a local association in town with over 45 teams and 500 or so players.  I was very please with the results this year.  You can check out my results by clicking on the photos below.

April 17, 2010 - GOLDEN GLOVES COMES TO TOWN!
I had the opportunity to photograph boxing for the first time when the BC Golden Gloves Amateur Championships came to town.  It was a lot tougher to shoot than I thought it would be as the boxers move in and out of frame and focus very quickly and the referee is also frequently in the way. Nevertheless, I managed to squeeze off a few shots and they can all be seen HERE or by clicking on an image below.

April 10, 2010 - BASEBALL SEASON OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY!
My baseball shooting season officially got underway last Saturday when I shot the inaugural game of the Victoria Eagles Midget Premier Baseball Club, a Midget age team that plays in the BC Premier Baseball League - one of the top high school age leagues in North America.  This marks the start of a busy baseball season for me, as in addition to shooting many of the Premier and Junior Premier Eagle games, I will also be shooting about 20 games for the Victoria Seals, our minor pro franchise here in town.

 


April 9, 2010 - ZENFOLIO FAN OF THE WEEK! 
I just found out that I have been named the Zenfolio Fan of the week for a range of different insights and postings on the Zenfolio Facebook Page.  Zenfolio are the fine folks who provide the hosting site for this very photography site.  For my efforts I am receiving a very Zennie tote bag! April 3, 2010 - VICTORIA GRIZZLIES JUNIOR A HOCKEY CLUB PROSPECT CAMP
Over 100 of the top 14-16 year old hockey players from BC, Alberta and the United States were on hand at Bear Mountain Arena this past weekend to attend the Victoria Grizzlies Junior A hockey Club’s annual Prospect Camp. Click HERE or on the images below to see the players in action.

March 31, 2010 - VICTORIA SALMON KINGS vs UTAH GRIZZLIES
I had the opportunity to shoot my first professional hockey game today as our hometown Victoria Salmon Kings hosted the Utah Grizzlies in ECHL action at Victoria's Save on Foods Memorial Arena.  After being subjected to the dark caves associated with youth and minor hockey around town, it was so nice to shoot hockey in a well lit arena!  See photos from the game HERE.

   

March 28, 2010 - JDF DEBBIE COOPER MEMORIAL BANTAM HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
The Saanich Braves Bantam C1 and Seattle Admirals Hockey Club finished off successful 2009-2010 seasons by capturing their respective Pool Championships at the first annual Debbie Cooper Memorial Bantam C (13-14 year old) Hockey tournament that was held at Bear Mountain arena over the March 26-28, 2010 weekend. March 21, 2010 - VANCOUVER ISLAND U16 HOCKEY CAMP
Some of the top 14-15 year old hockey players on Vancouver Island were on hand in Lake Cowichan, BC on the March 19-21 weekend to vie for a spot on the BC Hockey Vancouver Island U16 team. It was an excellent weekend of hockey that saw 20 players selected who will now move on to play in the BC Cup showcase in Prince George April 15-18. PHOTOS HERE

March 18, 2010 - ISLAND SPORTS NEWS NETWORK
I am pleased to announce that I am now part if the Island Sports News Network and will be photographing and reporting on a range of sporting events for this on-line based sports news agency.  My first events will be the U16 Vancouver Island Hockey Evaluation Camp on March 19, the Debbie Cooper Memorial Bantam C hockey tournament on March 26th and the Victoria Grizzlies Junior A Hockey Club Propsect Camp April 1st-3rd.

February 15, 2010 - ALASKA PHOTOS - FINALLY!
In August of 2008, our family took a cruise to Alaska from Vancouver. We cruised on the Celebrity Millennium and made stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, and the Hubbard Glacier. The trip also included a bus trip into Talkeetna and Denali National Park. The images from this trip are finally making their public debut and they are available HERE. Please enjoy!
